Blue Lake Canoe, Kayak, SUP & Kayak Fishing Information
Blue Lake is one of the most striking lakes in Nevada City. The vibrant blue water provides the perfect retreat for kayakers who have braved the rugged, pot-hole dirt road that leads to the lake. It is one of the premier kayaking and canoe spots in Northern California. This is due to its pristine beauty and remote access. High clearance vehicles are advisable to reach this amazing paddling getaway. If you can tear your eyes away from the road, the view will take your breath away.
This high elevation mountain lake is located in a wilderness wonderland. There is a cluster of small lakes, north of Lake Spaulding. The unique topographical features of the rugged shoreline and majestic mountains provide captivating views while paddling.
Blue Lake offers some of the best rainbow trout fishing in the state of California. Even though the catch here is primarily rainbow trout, there are a few cut- throat and brook trout as well. Trolling with flashers and worms will likely bring you the quickest action.
Open: Snowfall makes the lake access road impassible from the end October to late spring.
Fees: There aren't any fees to kayak.
Lake Facilities: The lake offers boating, swimming, and fishing. Unimproved boat ramp is available. There are no supplies available at Blue Lake. The lake facilities consist of fishing, hiking, swimming, and non-motorized boats. Pets are permitted. The Blue Lake trail is 1.5 miles long. It begins at 13e28 Grouse Ridge Trail and ends at By Rucker Lake Forest Road 18-06.
