Don Pedro Lake
Don Pedro Lake Kayak, Canoe, SUP & Kayak Fishing
Don Pedro Lake, is one of California's busiest lakes. Kayaking is more enjoyable earlier in the morning due to the gusty wind conditions common in this area, and the amount of boat traffic. This massive lake located in the Sierra Nevada foothills has three boat launch locations. Two launches are located on the southern side of the lake, one at Fleming Meadows and the other at Blue Oaks. A third launch is located on the northeastern side of the lake, at Moccasin Point.
Kayak fishing provides excellent opportunities to catch trout, salmon, black bass, catfish and bluegill. You might even pull in a few smallmouth or spotted bass. Bass fishing is open all year. The San Joaquin Fish Hatchery plants the lake with 25,000 to 30,000 pounds of brook trout, while Moccasin Creek Fish Hatchery stocked 40,000 pounds of rainbow trout. The DFG also planted 20,000 subcatchable brown trout and 60,000 fingerling rainbows in the lake in the fall.
Open: Don Pedro Lake is open for kayaking year-round, twenty-four hours a day seven days a week with running lights at night. There isn’t any posted daytime boat speed limit. The boat speed limit at night is 10 m.p.h.
Lake Facilities: The facilities include three boat launches, two full-service marinas, one on each side of the lake. Both have bait and tackle, a store and boat and rental equipment, fishing, power boating, sailing, windsurfing, jet and waterskiing and boat-in camping.
