Lake Amador lies protected from the wind by low
rolling foothills covered with blue oak woodland
and grassland. Paddling in the spring is the
ideal time of the year to paddle here when the
air temperatures are more mild and the hillsides
are green and come alive with wildflowers.
There are excellent wildlife viewing
opportunities at Lake Amador. Paddling
allows participants to see wildlife from a
different perspective. While paddling, you
can expect to see wildlife in the air, on
the water, and along the shores. Wildlife
sightings vary throughout the season.
Nesting times (April through June) are the
best times for bird viewing, but various
species show up throughout the summer. This
area is home to a variety of bird species
and animals such as owls and Gray Squirrels,
bald and Golden Eagles, woodpeckers and
Western Bluebirds. In addition to pretty
arms to explore, the lake offers excellent
kayak fishing opportunities.
Lake Amador is known for its excellent kayak
fishing opportunities. It is heavily
stocked, by its own hatchery with 3,200
pounds of trout averaging between 2-6 pounds
a piece. The Department of Fish and Game
also plant 14,000 rainbow trout annually,
which means there’s a lot of trout action
going on here for kayak anglers.
The best time to paddle Lake Amador is in
the spring when the rolling foothills are
green and there are huge displays of
blooming
wildflowers. In the spring, crisp mornings
make way for sunshine and comfortable air
temperatures.
