and head on over to Lake Jennings. This small
lake now allows sit-in style kayaks. You can bring
your own kayak, or they have kayaks available
Lake Jennings is a superb destination for a short, leisurely paddle and to take in the stnning views of the surrounding terrain as well as the wildlife viewing. Lake Jennings offers excellent wildlife photography opportunities. Keep a lookout for deer, bobcats, coyotes, skunks and raccoons. Even if you’ve seen birds many times before, bird watchers are drawn to Lake Jennings for over 475 variety of birds that can be seen, at this pristine lake.
There are an abundance of scenic picnicking areas, located around the lake, such as Cloister Cove, Siesta Point, Hermit Cove, and Eagle Point. Some picnic areas provide barbecue grills, while others are best suited for a cold lunch. The picnic areas that are open during the week on Sentry Point below the campground as well as during normal lake operating hours of Friday, Saturday and Sunday around the entire lake. The cost to access the lake for picnicking includes your parking pass.
Lake Jennings offers of the best fresh water fishing in the San Diego County! The lake is stocked with trout weekly or bi-weekly between November and early April and with catfish during the summer months. You can also hook large-mouth bass, red-ear sunfish and bluegill, as well as channel and blue catfish. Shoreline fishing is available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by purchasing your Fishing Permit at the Campground Check-In Station.
With hot summer days, this is the place to cool off. Unfortunately, water body contain is not allowed, nor are sit on top kayaks. But you can paddle in a sit-inside kayak that are at least 10 feet long, that are not self-bailing (and they must have seats for all persons inside.) Sit-on top or inflatable kayaks are not allowed. All boats must return to the boat dock 30 minutes prior to closing time. Boats shall not exceed 10 mph at any time. Personal watercraft, inflatable rafts, sailboats, amphi-cars, and waders are prohibited.
Boat rental and private boat launching tickets can be purchased at the Lake Jennings Bait and Tackle Shop. You must be age 16 or older and show valid identification.Private boats can be launched with an $8 per day permit. Boating is only allowed when the lake is open (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays, and the month of July).
