In recent years, Lake Ming has become one of the
Bakersfield’s favorite outdoor destinations. The
lake used to be out in the boonies, but with the
rapid expansion of Bakersfield over the last 20
years, Lake Ming is now right in town.
One of the best ways to start your visit
here is in a kayak, drinking in the beauty
and getting to know the layout of the lake.
If you love the outdoors and paddling in a
hot climate, Lake Ming is the perfect
getaway for you.
Your days at Lake Ming will be filled with
kayaking, sailing, fishing, picnicking,
boating, and waterskiing. Located less than
10-miles east of Bakersfield, you’ll find
the lake is as convenient as it is
enjoyable. Be on the lookout for mule deer,
raccoons, coyote, fox, and Golden and bald
eagles interact within their natural
habitat.
After several years of severe drought, Lake
Ming’s water level is currently very low, so
boating and fishing are limited. Call before
departing for lake closures.
The lake is planted with trout during the
fall for the season, and thrives with carp,
bass, and catfish during the summer. The
Department of Fish and Game stocks
the
lake with 10 to 12 inch rainbow trout during
the winter months. Species of fish taken
here include largemouth bass, catfish, carp
and bluegill.
