It’s nearly impossible not to be drawn to Lake Berryessa’s stunning views and diverse nature, which makes this lake an extraordinary paddling get-away. Lake Berryessa offers paddlers a peaceful setting and a pleasant year-round air temperature. It is one of the largest bodies of fresh water in California. Brilliant sunrises and sunsets, incredible sunny days, and hours exploring secluded coves on the water are just a few of the many pleasures this lake has to offer.

The lake’s enormous size need not prevent you from having a pleasurable paddling experience, thanks to the numerous boat launch locations that allow you to paddle this enormous lake in sections at a time. The arms located on the southwestern shore provide an abundance of secluded inlets to explore, which offer protection from the wind and fast-moving powerboats.

Bird watching and wildlife viewing are first-rate. Ideal bird-watching opportunities are best in the early spring and late fall during migration and nesting seasons. Sightings of wildlife feeding along the shoreline may include deer, coyote, bobcat, skunk, and grey fox.

The lake has two marinas and three recreation areas with concessions. You can hand-launch anywhere with legal access to the water, then explore the whole lake to find quiet coves and beautiful views.

With fantastic campsite settings and plenty of recreational activities, you won’t be lacking for adventure on and around the lake. Around the lake’s perimeter, there are hiking trails ranging from 1.1 to 2.6 miles that invite you to enjoy great views among the grassy hills dotted with oak and manzanita.
