The reservoir is easily accessible off of
Highway 89 and is an intriguing retreat for all
levels of paddlers. The restriction on swimming,
jet and waterskiing reduces the number of
visitors to a small handful. The easy paddle
around the reservoir’s perimeter provides
commanding views of colorful mountains and
foothills clothed with pines.
Thick stands of trees along the shoreline
provide plenty of shady pullout access
locations to relax upon for a spell. Several
areas of the reservoir had a growth of
yellow algae along the shore the numerous
times I have been here. The area offers
incredible views, but unfortunately, in
2021, the Dixie Fire badly burned the
forests surrounding Round Valley Lake.
If you are looking for excellent black bass
kayak fishing action, Round Valley Reservoir
is the place to go. There’s also an ample
amount of quality catfish and bluegill. This
stunning reservoir is a warm water fishery
where anglers catch large
numbers
of largemouth bass, bluegill and channel
catfish, but it is the abundance of bluegill
that draws most anglers from throughout
Northern California to fish here.
